Mary Charlotte Gordon (Clay) Obituary

Mary Charlotte Gordon Clay was the wife of James Mitchell Clay and the mother to Emma Clay (aka Nana).  Emma Clay was the mother of Lester Clay Essig, Sr.  Her obituary and information on her death were a mystery to me until last year when I received a large stack of papers from the Clay County Missouri Historical Society.  She sounds like a wonderful person and one I can’t wait to meet.

Flying a plane with your eyes shut?

I found this article about Fred Essig (Uncle Fred…husband of Aunt Esther).  He was a pilot in WWI.  I thought this was a fun story about a flight he took with a friend.
