Flying a plane with your eyes shut?

Categories: Noah Frederick Essig Jr (Uncle Fred)

I found this article about Fred Essig (Uncle Fred…husband of Aunt Esther).  He was a pilot in WWI.  I thought this was a fun story about a flight he took with a friend.

Lester Clay Essig Jr - World War 2

This photo has the following written on back:

Lester Clay Essig Jr – The place is Heidelberg, Germany, at the castle, but you will have to guess who the character is.  It was taken a way back in combat days, a short time after the town surrendered.  Note the Military Bearing & Neatness dates back to Culver.  Ma Whitney should see this.  Note the shoulder holster, knife, compass, steel helmet, 45 cal clip or magazine pouch.  The buldge under my compass is another pistol – German 32 cal. on my pants belts. GAD what an ombray!

Noah Frederick Essig & Anna Catherine Schnebly

Noah Frederick Essig was born in Nagold, Germany, in 1784.  He traveled to the United States where he married Anna Catherine Schnebly (born in 1789).  They are the parents of Henry Essig, Sr.  Thanks to Aunt Darlene we have photos of these two great ancestors.  How amazing it is to think these are photos of our ancestors who were born over 220 years ago!!

The Tingey Saga

Categories: Delmar Clive Tingey, Mabel Andersen Tingey

I found “The Tingey Saga” while digging through boxes at my parents.  I’m not sure who wrote it, but I think it tells a great story.  Originally I thought Joan had written it, but here name is spelled wrong in the text, so I am sure it wasn’t her.  If anyone knows who wrote it, let me know!

All about our ancestors

Categories: Uncategorized

I’ve decided it would be fun to have a blog about our ancestors. I am hoping to use the blog to post pictures, stories, articles, and any other information of interest on our Essig ancestors. Hopefully all of you will enjoy the posts and will learn a little more about our ancestors. I’m hoping to post once a week, but I make no promises. So, if you have a feed reader, add the Essig Family History blog to your feeds.

Also, if you have anything you would like to add, please let me know. This does not have to be a blog authored only by me. I hope you enjoy!!!
